ABOUT

Nora Williams (b. 1994) was born and raised in South Carolina. As a documentary artist and photographer, she explores the complexities of identity, place, and history, particularly within Black and LGBTQ communities in the American South. Her work examines themes of resilience, belonging, and social change, often focusing on underrepresented narratives.

Williams’ photographs have been exhibited in galleries and museums including the Elder Gallery of Contemporary Art and The Light Factory. Her work has been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and STAT News.

​

She is the co-founder of The Carolina Creatives, an organization dedicated to empowering creatives of color across the Carolinas. Williams is an FAA-certified drone pilot and a member of Black Women Photographers, Diversify Photo, NPPA, and Alternate Roots. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography at the University of South Carolina.
